Is there a Gel that matches UW filters?

  1. So my wide angle adapter for my DVX100 has a very odd size on the end, 102mm. Through a lot of searching I've found that no one make a filter in that size(except for century optics and it's just a polarizer and u/v filter).

So my next best guess is to try to either tape a gel on the end on the lens or sandwich it in between the lens and the u/v filter. The u/v filter cost about $190 and I'd like to avoid that if possible. Looking at the UR Pro blue water filter it looks a lot like a full CTO (color temperature orange). Can anyone confirm if there are any Studio/Cinema gels that match underwater filters? If so what are they?

    Thanks!

  2. So for the 7 people that have actually clicked on this thread I found a gel very similar to the UR Pro blue water filter. If you have a Lee Filters swatch book the color is called Bastard Pink. It's not exact because the UR Pro filter is slightly more dull in color(less saturated) but it's about as close of a match you can find with a single gel(not doubling up 2 or 3 gels. I actually found one that would be perfect but it would take 5 of them to create the same exposure. I've also found that I can tape the gel over the camera's attached lens and sanwich it between that and the wide angle lens adapter. So much cheaper too. The 72mm filter I bought cost me about $130, a full gel sheet which I can probably make about 50 filters out of only cost $6.50 a sheet. The only problem with using a "party gel" is that they don't come in different darknesses like standard color correction gels(i.e. CTB or CTO full, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4). I think that the slight difference in color will be neutralized by the MWB. It's such a small difference it took about a minute of starring at it to even notice. Now I just need to get my hands on a green water filter and match a gel to that one.

  3. you might want to look at the Magic Filter as well. It works well on still photos. They also come in green water filters
