Is D300 P$S camera ???

  1. It is not...however, you can take picture like you do on P&S camera.

I am finding D300 has new feature called 'Live View'. You have to select 'Lv' from

left top dial & select Live View from 'Manu' and you can see the object

through large(?) LCD screen. You can change the focus point while you are watching

& also, hear 'bip' when focused.

What about camera settings ? Do I still have to see from top window or through

    view finder ??

Nop...You can now see ALL your setting through large(?) LCD screen too, by

pushing second key in left side of LCD.

I think it is NOT for most of us but, it will help some people who need it.

I have yet to use LiveView for any other purpose than just checking it out. It's not really that "freindly" to use, and it involves a lot of shutter lag. I can't see using it for anything than taking a picture from way over my head, maybe over a crowd. It seem like more of a competitive "checkbox" feature to match other cameras.

Fortuantely, it's easily ignored and in no way takes away from the excellent D300.

  3. Hi,

I tried it out in swimming pool today & I got totally different feeling about it. On shore, I don't think I will ever use it but, I liked it when I was using it in underwater.

  4. I found it can be of some use for large scale scenic shots.

Mostly I use it's excellent viewfinder. Not as good as the D2X viewfinder, but better than the D100 and a lot better than the D40.

The LCD for photo review is fabulous though. Makes anything else seem inadequate.
