Newbie - Which housing for 30D?

4 posts
  1. Hi, I'm looking for recommendations from anyone who has used a housing with the Canon 30D. I want to get a housing, but am not sure of the pro's and cons of each make.

I'll be using the housing for breathhold diving down to about 10metres and for surf photos.

I'd certainly appreciate any wisdom from people that have been there and tried it with the 30D, thanks.

I have browsed the forums and done a search for 30d housing, canon, etc. but am looking for a specific answer on your experiences - cheers.

  2. Hi Jonny,

Aquatech makes housings specifically for surf photography. They are depth rated to 33 feet which is about 10m. They have pistol grip and pole cam shutter releases available which is great for surf photos. They also have an 8 inch dome that is good for splits and underwater photos, while most of their other ports are designed for above the water splash sports photography.

    Best regards,

    Jim

  3. Thanks Jim,

The aquatech looks ok, but is not TTL for the underwater stuff. I've also seen Ikelite and Subal housings for the 30d but am just trying to find out if anyone has used them...

    Thanks for the pointer.

  4. If you need TTL, you can get a housing for the 580EX flash. I think there is one of these also made by Aquatech or one of the other surf housing manufacturers.

    Cheers

    James
