Image change in PS

  1. I have been meaning to post this or a while but didn't have time <_< . I use PS CS2 on a PC and when I save an image using either the save as command or the save for web command the image dulls a bit or loses some contrast, it took a bit of working out but take a look at the difference, the only way I could show you was to save the image in another program to show you side by side, anyone know why this happens? Thanks.

The image on the left is before saving, the one on the right after:

  2. Probably a change in the image color space??? Is one AdobeRGB and one sRGB?

    Cheers

    James

  3. I agree with James; this is most likely a color space issue. If you are working in AdobeRGB or Prophoto it is a larger color space than sRGB. If and when you save for web, it will convert to sRGB according to how you have PS set up to convert. In general if your setup with rendering intent as Relative colormetric then the Adobe or Prophoto gamuts will be compressed to sRGB so all the colors will shift slightly. With Perceptual rendering intent the out of gamut colors will simply be clipped and the remaining colors will not change.

  4. thats funny, i wrote a post about sRGB and Adobe RGB as my guess and just hit enter when WP went down...

I guess it didn't make it through.. :)

  5. My Camera is set to AdobeRGB and in color settings in PS C2 also AdobeRGB, so where am I going wrong? thx

Web is always sRGB - so Save for Web will do this. I'm not in front of a PS computer now so cannot remember what options Save As has. Just check that it is saving in the same format as you are working on.

  7. Aha, gotcha, thanks.

  8. I tried it and the save as command does the same thing, is there something else I can look at?

  9. I think that Photoshop only provided the option for Save For Web to convert to sRGB automatically in CS3...

    For posting to web:

Prior to saving, go to Edit/Convert to Profile. Set 'Destination Space' to sRGB and click OK. Then Save For Web as usual.

  10. That's the one, thanks Matt.

  11. Patrick ... some quite cool information here too .. similar sort of topic came up due to browser and photo hosting differentials.

also this one which you may find interesting too, but slightly different stuff i think.
