Anyone shooting with Tokina 12~24?

  1. I have this lens and have used it underwater a little bit, but when taking pics where the subject is close to the dome port the corner sharpness is horrid... I have tried a +2 diopter, but it is still pretty bad.

I have the recomended dome port extension and am shooting at f8 or so.

Will a +4 fix this problem or should I start looking for a new lens?

  2. What housing, port, and port extension are you using? What f-stops?

I had that lens and got great results.

I should have put all that in the first post :-)

Im Using an Ikelite housing with 8" dome with the extension that Ikelite recomends for that lens. Im usually shooting around f8 to f11.

  4. FWIW, I use the Tokina 12-24mm with pretty good results. I use a Sea & Sea rig, so maybe this isn't really useful info for you, but I use a 40mm ext ring and a +2 diopter with a the big (10") dome port.

If I try really close focus WA stuff, I find that the corners a little soft with the 12-24, but by backing off a bit I get much better results. as a result, when I kow that I'm shooting close focus WA pics, I'll use a fisheye.

I use the 12-24 when I want a little more reach. I think it's a great shark lens for example.

    Take care,

    John
