Tokina 10-17 with FF?

  1. Hi there, anyone tried this lens with a Fullframe camera? :)

Just looking for a Fisheye and thinking of a zoomlens rather than a fixed one. If not possible/recommendable at all, I'd go with the EF 15mm for my EOS 5D + Seacam SD.

  2. I have tried the lens on a FF Nikon mount. It appears to work at the widest setting to the point where the sun shield interferes with the image. Cutting the shield off would be required to see how wide it would actually get. I haven't studied how sharp it is at the edges in that situation but I am pessimistic that it is usable. With a 1.4x teleconverter it seems that it would work fine with the shield removed. At that point the lens will have a somewhat slow aperture for autofocus.

  3. I have that exact setup on my desk right now. I bought the tokina specifically for doing 360 degree spherical panoramas. After cutting the sunshade off (which required some metalworking skills and a lot of care), the lens produces over 180 degrees of view in the long dimension of the frame at 10mm, but vignettes severely (ie the view you get is like a circular fisheye, but with the sides cut off). This is exactly what i need for making spherical panoramas, but perhaps not a good effect for normal wide-angle photography. Zoom in to around 15mm and you lose the vignetting, and get an image probably similar to a 15mm fisheye. So if you don't want to make panoramas (and get into cutting off the shade etc.), a 15mm FE is probably a better bet.

OK, thanks for your input. Since I'm not that highly skilled I'm afraid I think I rather get me the EF 15.
