Aquatica D200 upgrade

20 posts
  1. I'm debating whether to by an aquatica D200 housing now, or wait for the D300 (and by a D300 at the same time).

I've heard rumours that the aquatica D200 housing MIGHT be upgradable to fit a D300. Anyone know if there's any truth in this?

  2. I've heard the same rumor with a time frame of March or April as a possible avaialbility date. Jean or Blake from Aquatica hopefully will have the answer soon.

Alas - just another way to spend my money.

    Andy

    :)

  3. No rumor here, we are working on a conversion package for the D200 to D300. at this stage we have yet to see anything that would refrain us from doing it.

Most important, Its going to be a easy thing to set up. :)

Are any updates available yet on the D200 to D300 conversion? I have been waiting since February for an update and it hasn't arrived so I thought I would ask. If this happens then I would probably purchase the D200 housing and not have to get rid of it if upgrading to the D300.

Outstanding, this is where the guys from Aquatica differentiate themselves from the rest of the manufacturers, they make life easier and less costly for us while still making money from the upgrades which many of us could not or prefer not to afford if we had to upgrade to a completely new housing.

PS: I am not associated with Aquatica in any way nor I get any freebies from them, just in case U were wondering. I do like their way of doing business and I am happy with their products [apart from a couple of mnor things i.e.].

  7. This makes me wish I bought an Aquatica housing for my D200!

  8. Allright here is the story on the retrofit, damn right we are doing it, right now the initial batch of casting is all spoken for and we do not have any back left over at the moment to assign for conversion purposes. it will happen, I would venture, in the beginning to mid april, at this point we should have fulfilled the complete outstanding D300 housing orders and can then proceed to market the conversion package. and no don't ask me yet about the price :D, i'll get that to you guy's ASAP, just have to break down the maths and come up with the number for it.

Sorry I can't give you more than that at the moment. :P I realise how "patient" we are as pixellian, being one myself (and the owner of a D200 as well). if any consolation, I will not convert mine until every one else has been served before, scout's honor!

  9. I think this is fantastic for Aquatica D200-owners, and I sort of regret not getting an Aquatica housing... I tried a D300 in my Hugyfot D200 housing and it didn't fit. I don't know if it's possible to do a conversion-kit for Hugyfot, perhaps not, but it would be nice. I think manufacturers who make a conversion kit can be sure that the customer will stay with them in the future, because you feel very secure that you will not miss out... Next time I upgrade, manufacturers who have made a D200 to D300 conversion-kit will be at the top of my list...

    cheers

Seconded. Even though I still love the glove-like fit of my Hugy.

That's true. Maybe we're all just extra wound up now, especially after DP reviews article. Let's see in a couple of months if all those D300-shooters deliver a lot better pictures :P

    cheers

  12. Will we have to send the housing in or can we do it ourselves?

  13. It's a simple do it yourself affair, no rocket science involved, even ''W'' should be able do set it up, OK maybe i'm pushing here, :P

  14. Jean

Is the upgrade going to be supplied to the Aquatica dealers ? , specifically Cameras Underwater for the UK .. or is it a direct order from yourselves in Canada

    Thanks

  15. It will be available via your preffered Aquatica dealer, we are in the final stage and I should have a product number for the conversion package pretty soon.

  16. Seconded. Even though I still love the glove-like fit of my Hugy.

    Same here.

Congratulations to Aquatica for the, let´s say "sincere", approach to the D200-D300 transition.

  17. Any news on this upgrade Jean??

  18. Hi all

I pm'd Jean on this and here is his reply to me

Hello Simon, here is the latest scoop, the new paint scheme of our housing is speckled black, the silver has been discontinued and no longer available. We didn’t have as many conversion demand as anticipated and cannot justify the minimum quantity required for the paint to match the Silver of your housing, that does not mean we are canceling plan for the conversion, it just mean that you would need to send in your housing front and rear for a repaint to our matching D300 housings rear.

Retail price for the conversion back is 1199.00 USD and due to the nature of the service involved, I doubt B&H will provide this service. You can go through us for this conversion. We are shipping D300 housing as of last week

    Regards

    Jean Bruneau, Aquatica Technical Adviser

I then got this replay regarding shipping back to the UK

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Repainting is included but not shipping. Also a turn around time of +/- 3 weeks is needed for stripping, re-anodizing, painting and assembling, incidentally that will include overhauling your D200 with new O-rings and a pressure test.

    Regards

The reference to B&H is I am visiting New York later in the year and was thinking of purchasing the conversion kit from them as it is cheaper the in the UK

What Jean is offering is , I think a great service for the price and I will be sending my housing off soon to be converted ..

When it is ready I can call and pay over the phone with credit card , the housing will then be shipped back to me ...

    Simon

  19. That sounds like a pretty fair deal. A housing overhaul is worth at least a couple of hundred dollars alone.

    Howdy,

I just checked with aquatica. They no longer offer a d300 upgrade.
