YS-27DX good for wide angle?

6 posts
  1. Hi,

I thinking of getting the YS-27DX but is it good for wide angle? I was thinking of getting the YS-110 but I need to save $$$ for a Cozumel trip I'm doing in June. I know I could save to get the YS-110 in the future, but I really need a strobe for the trip though. Can anybody help?

Don't have any because the WP-DC18 doesn't have a mount for it.

  4. Well if its anything like these http://www.digidiver.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1715 you might be able to modify the housing. The YS27DX is a great strobe for a P&S camera. Its completely manual but is strong enough to cover the range of your lens.

  5. I think it's fine for the camera you have, especially without a w/a lens. The differences between the two are; DTTL (may or may not work with your camera depending on preflash), 13 exposure steps, as opposed to 8, wider beam angle with 3 flash tubes, faster recycle time, and upgradable for use with a DSLR with hardwired sync. Thats a lot for the $140 or so price difference.

You can always shoot close focus wide angle shots, lighting a foreground subject and using the available light to light the rest of the frame.

And, as you add to your system or upgrade to another strobe; use the YS27DX as a second fill-in strobe. Not as nice as having two matched strobes, but should work out ok, other than the difference in recycle times.

  6. Thanks for your help Gary and Jack, this is the shot I'm wanting to achieve here. This was taken by Kawika off of California.

As for the strobe, scubatoys have a sweet discount deal which I can't wait to get

And the rest is right here.
