super macro set up for canon 350d

  1. can any of you guys point me in the right direction of what io need to get some super macro shots from lembeh.

i currently have a canon 350D housed in the sea and sea DX350. i have been using the 60mm macro and woodys wet lens for macro and have some pretty good images. i know the limits to this set up and know how shy pygmys are so i was thinking of going down the route of 100mm canon macro with x2 teleconvertor.

would this be the right thing to do or would you suggest something else.

all comments welcome especially from 350D users

  2. hi stew,

i did the same step some months ago and am more than happy. but i took a 1,5 tele with the 100 mm ... which is actually enough. you get some awesome magnification ... but it is still quite easy (or less PITA) to find things trough the viewfinder. also a x1,5 will eat less light compared to a x2

and still you can add your woodys ...

  3. Hey Surge,

That's very interestiing. Have you got any pics with a 1.5 teleconverter because I'm curious to see what kind of results you had? I had that same question regarding super macro and the response I got was that it was too much macro and your DOF would be too shallow if you used more than a 100mm lens with a macro mate adapter (wet dioptre).

    Thanks

    Vance

  4. Hi Vance,

i postet one exemple with 100+tc+diopter here: http://wetpixel.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=22966

some other supermacros are in the recent albums on my website (from november on i basicly only used that combo for macro). Yes, DOF gets shallow. Extremely shallow, when you are close and use open apertures. But this can result in very nice images. the diopter on top of the tc is something you rather use rarely fr things that barely move. but you can always take it off under water ...

a 100mm with a tc is definately a nice combination.

  5. Hey Pakman,

Sorry, but I don't know your first name.

Anyway, I noticed on a recent thread on Wetpixel that you were wondering how to mount/carry one of Inon's wet changeable lenses. I have had the same problem when trying to carry without losing my Inon #3 lens for my Z-22 strobe.

I found that the easiest way of securring the lens was to attach the specific lens holder to the housing handles. I believe that you have the lens holder? Anyway, just turn it over and take out the lock-down screw. You will now find that one of ULCS's S&S YS strobe mounts fits snugly in the groove on the back. Put the backing plate back on and then screw a londer thread into the holder and you are all set and ready to mount the holder to your housing via a simple 1" ball mount.

    Photos attached.

    HTH,

    Bruce

BTW, how do you add attachments? Is there a specific size for images?
