Sea & Sea VX PC350

Hi Philip,
I have used a PC330E/S&S VX PC not for dailies, but over at least 300 dives, mainly in tropical seas. I got it as a "good deal" when the PC350 came out. From a diving point of view the difference between the 330E and the 350 was negligible. It was mainly a make over. S&S had to redesign the housing a little.
I found it a very good, neat, point and shoot housing, and it has performed faultlessly. In spite of upgrading to HDV I have kept the set-up as it is very compact and can be part of my carry-on luggage. The right arm controls operate through the remote control I/R port on the side of the housing. So only the on/off and "fix focus" controls are mechanical. I still haven't had to change the handle battery!
Low light performance is quite reasonable, but I did use twin niterider HIDs for macro work. I found the push on red CC filter very effective in the blue red sea, but not so effective in the seas around Sulawesi. I also have the flip-over close-up lens for macro use.
I did get a little vignetting using the S&S wide angle adaptor supplied with the housing, but only on full wide with long shots. Problem though was it is not visible in the viewfinder so I had to remember when it is likely to happen and then add a very little zoom. The camera works very well and I always film in 16:9.
Cheers
Roger

Hi Roger,
Thanks so much for your input. Yes, you are correct about the PC330PAL about the performance in low light. I use the same filming dailies in Maldives and was really happy about it paired with an electronic Foto Leone housing. The fact that the S&S VX PC could be a carry-on luggage at the plane is a real plus. Anyway, I'll keep you posted.
Best regards,
Philip
