Sea & Sea D200 Housing Flash Synch Ports

6 posts
  1. Connecting 2 Sea & Sea Strobes, a YS120 to the standard flash port, and a YS50 to the port marked Convertor. the shutter will fire once and then lock-ups.

Both strobes are using Nik 5 synch cables.

The flash icon on the D200 camera then flashes on and off until one of the strobes is disconnected.

Using both synch ports at once could this be overloading the camera's circuitry and causing the problem.

Connecting the strobes one at a time to either flash port works OK.

    Thanks

    David

  2. I'd be careful there. The "Converter" marked bulkhead is a 6pin and for the TTL Converters only. If you don't plan on using a TTL Converter, probably best to buy a S&S dual sync cable and connect to the standard nikonos bulkhead (5pin).

  3. Looking at the two bulkhead connectors they look identical, 5 pin.

I have connected another strobe in place of the YS50, a Ikelite Substrobe 150 to the Convertor port

and it works fine with none of the initial problems.

So it looks as though the circuitry of the YS50 may of been the problem

Sea & Sea's Technical sheet states "Two type-N connectors (2-pin wired and 5-pin wired) come standard with the housing" which is a bit confusing.

Perhaps someone can throw some light on this

  4. David, Oops, I'm thinking of the S&S Canon housings... ignore my post...

  5. It sounds like both strobes are giving "ready" information to the camera. The camera can only deal with a "ready" signal from one strobe. Try masking off all the contacts on the hotshoe connector in the housing except the middle contact (fire) and the outside edges (ground). You can do this with a couple of pieces of insulation tape.

I used two YS 250's, one in each strobe port, by doing exactly this.

    Craig,

I have done as you suggested and both strobes now work in synch, although I just masked off the top left contact as per image.

    Many thanks for your suggestion.
