They don't answer my e-mails and when I contacted an underwater kit repairer in the UK they came back to me with the same problem. They can't get spares because Subtronic does not appear to answer its mail.
Does anyone have a stock of Subtronic parts and would be prepared to service one of my Alpha flashguns or do I go out and buy another make?
If you help with repairs PM me at: john@divermag.co.uk
Hi John,
I am sure they are still in business. They exhibited at the BOOT show in Dusseldorf last month. See digideep.
The last contact I had with them was in the autumn (I had two strobes go wrong last summer) and they were fully operational then - and fixed both.
I have asked a few people about looking after Subtronic strobes in the UK - and everyone has declined. If you find someone willing let me know.

have you been using that info that is on their website John ?
maybe even google translate your email into German .. maybe the person who receives all emails doesn't know English and so just bins all the English emails ? Just some ideas you probably already tried.

That was the address I have used. I am now getting a German friend to write to them. Maybe they will understand my message!
Thanks for the help.

Hai!
Subtronic is still in business.
But modern communication is a …. traditional problem for Subtronic
I am from Germany and if you wish I can ask Subtronic for you.

It might be worth explaining to them that they are not likely to be in business for long unless they at least upgrade to 20th century communication and improve their service. I own four Subtronics, but these will definitely be my last unless the company changes. Ryan from Reef recently informed me my last Subtronic repair just cleared customs and I should be getting it back soon. I think it only took about 6 months. <_<
I had a problem with one of my Novas and they fixed it very fast (I told them that I needed it for an underwater competition). They have a service called Expressrepair that, at least, worked for me:
They received the strobe on october 10th, fixed it and sent it back arriving at my house (in the Canary Islands needing customs clearance unlike mainland Spain) october 19th so that I could use it at the competition. Very good!!
I had no problems communicating in English with them.
Good luck!!

We both share the same thinking. Although facing awkward situations at airlines checkin's everytime, I kind of liked my Subtronic Gamma, but when it sudenly went out of order I've been confronted with their service approach which I would not call "state-of-the-art" By the way, language has not been the problem here
Happy to help you if you need support.
Hey JB
You haven't had alot of luck with your Subtronics, maybe if you stopped feeding them to Egypts Oceanic Whitetip population the strobes would prove less problematic.
Or maybe its time for a change, the Seacam 150's look awesome, have a chat with Peter Kay.

Update:
I took a chance and mailed the unit to the address supplied here on wetpixel. I am relieved to say that Subtronic sent me an e-mail to say it arrived!
I've heard no more since.

I guess you got confused with Paul and Mary!
Subtronic Postscript.
I mailed my Alpha flash to Subtronic.
I have just received it back repaired.
Can't argue with that.
It seems that they just are not good at communicating!
Like David,
I find their service fast and reliable. I still use my old Megacolor strobes for wide angle and love the light they give. My problem has been with the need to change batteries every two years or so. Last battery change I did myself no problems so far... Perhaps the old film strobes are more sturdy than their new digital cousins..
Best wishes,
Espen :-)
Anyone have any experience with the Subtronic Minis for macro? I know I may be a beggar for punishment, but I do love the light these strobes provide. I'm thinking of Inons or Minis before my trip to Sipadan in November.

Hi Loftus,
I have used a pair of Mini TTL’s for several years and love them. I use them occasionally for macro but mostly for wide angle. They have multiple power settings, good beam spread and as you say a very nice soft quality of light. You can also buy a digital TTL version with a Heinrich converter installed in the gun.
They are a little more negative in the water than Inons, but then they are made from aluminum of course. I use an 8in ULCS buoyancy section (old style) on each arm set up and this gives me a slightly negative rig (Subal ND20 and D200).
My experience of Subtronic service has been very good – I have dealt directly with them and always found them very helpful and responsive. Their guns are very popular in Europe.
Hope that helps.

Thanks, I may go for these instead of Inons. One thing about Subtronics with the built in battery etc, they do not flood. Every trip I've ever been on I've seen either Inons or Ikelights flood.
Be careful of buying built in Batteries. You will/might get into trouble while flying.
Subtronic are also offering Batteries in the Arm. That way you can separate the Battery from the Strobe while flying and also an easier change of Batteries.
The other day I had a problem with another Nova so I sent it in telling them that I needed it very fast for a splash-in competition and whole trip was less than two weeks which is very good being in the Canary Islands.
