One breath videos!!!

  1. Hello people.I'm a real photo newbie from Greece and i'm looking for some advice!

I have been spearfishing for a long time now and finally i decided to capture on video what is going on during my dives :)

Since this will be my first digital camera :) ,i would like to know what are the important features of a camera to be able to take good photos/videos in such a low light place as sea.I have been told that the white light balance is one of the main important issues i should take a look at,as well as the noise in the picture.

Another main concern is that the digital camera(not camcorder) should be small sized and be able to take videos without any flash or additional light.

I would really appreciate if you could give me some of your knowledge to make a right choice.

    Thanks a lot,Theo

  2. Pretty much every point and shoot camera can take some sort of video (640x480). The quality is only decent at best, but this is to my eyes and not the normal crowd where it's good enough to many. Newer cameras like the Casio EX-F1 Pro does HD resolution at 60i but I think that's already bigger than what you need.

Drew thanks a lot for your suggestion, but i think this Casio will be too big for me.Bare in mind that the camera may be mounted on a speargun as well so the weight and volume of the camera are critical. It would be really helpful if you could point me the camera features needed for such an activity.By the time i know those it will be fairly easy to make a choice...hopefully ;)

    Theo,

Congratulations on your move to video. I started shooting still photos three years ago after a lifetime of freediving, and have found it enormously rewarding. Like you, I still use the speargun, but the challenge of a well framed picture of a gamefish is the most difficult thing I've done in diving, and it's a lot of fun.

You can also get good input on gun mounted cameras at Spearfishingplanet.com and Spearboard.com. Many members there have done what you intend to do. I've heard reports that gun recoil can damage some cameras, so do your homework.

  5. Hi Theo,

Are you on deeperblue.net? We have been working out camera attachments for guns for a while. I'll try and post a link:

Personally, I tend to hang my gun on my float and switch between picture taking and fishing, mainly because there's not many fish around at the moment!

People tend to put the camera on the muzzle just in front of the trigger and to one side, you can see what you're filming that way.

    good luck.
