Sealux housing for Coolpix 5000

Looks good Mike!
Just out of curiousity (for anyone who's reading this) why do you all think that the housing designers decided to design the housing so that the LCD panel remains folded out?

My guess (and this is just a guess) is that they need the room to the left of the camera to accomodate a big port - so might as well leave the LCD folded out. Still trying to decide if the angled LCD is an advantage or not as well...never dove w/ one like that before.

Based on my Tetra, I think the angled LCD would be a real disadvantage at shallower depths. At depths less than about 30', it's very hard to see the LCD which is oriented at 90 deg. Seems tilting it up into the light would just exacerbate that problem...
I can see the concept of swimming, arms extended, slightly downward and having a view of the lcd (aka most video rigs), but that seems a poor trade off for the shallow water glare problem.

Yes, I think that's why they do it -- at first blush, it would seem more comfortable for the photographer that way. It would also make it easier to get straight-on shots of some of the little critters. However, like you say, it seems there are almost as many times when one would desire it facing some other direction. I guess there is no perfect solution, just a number of choices! I'm still used to pressing my mask up against the back of my SLR housing to look through the viewfinder!

I think SeaLux should have done the same thing Subal did with their CP5000 case. Put an extra window so that the user can choose between straight and diagonal viewing. Don'tcha think?

Now that's a good point Laz. I guess the engineers from the different housing companies should get together over a beer next time...
