Hugyfot housing & Aquatica ports

  1. I am considering buying a Hugyfot housing for my 40D.

Anyone using Hugyfot with Aquatica ports and can comment on how well the zoom and focus gears work, especially for the 100mm macro and the 10-17 fisheye?

    TIA,

    Hi Vandit,

I have no idea how well Aquatica ports work with Hugyfot housings, but I have some info on Hugyfot zoom/focus gears:

Hugyfot does not offer a focus gear for the 100mm macro. See Hugyfot port compatability chart for Canon

However, I was told that the Sea&Sea 100mm macro focus gear will also work in a Hugyfot housing. I ordered that gear on saturday for my 400d housing. Once I've tested it I will share my experience.

I can't comment on the Aquatica ports either, but I do use the 10-17 fisheye. I am very pleased with the lense and port and how well the zoom works.

Kim, I'd appreciate if you could do that. I'd be lost without my 100mm macro :)

    Hi Vandit

Do you know if the Hugyfot is compatible with the screw Aquatica or the bayonet (newer) ports? I have an Aquatica and if I can use the ports then a Hugyfot could be an alternative especially if it is the screw in Aquatica ports.

    regards

  6. Ardy, I only inquired about the bayonet mounts and the Hugy housings are compatible - basically, they use an adapter to connect the port to the housing. I am sure they can come up with an adapter for the Aquatica screw-mount as well - best to email them and check, as they've been very responsive.

Although, looking at the Aquatica A40 housing, I am quite tempted to stay with Aquatica as well. This housing seems to address the 1 or 2 niggles I've had in what has otherwise been a very good experience with the 20D housing.

    Hi Vandit

I have had 2 of them over the last 10 years and I must say they are the only housings where I feel very comfortable putting expensive gear into. I have never had so much as a drop of water in them except when changing lenses between dives - A messy business.

I am thinking of getting a D50 but I dont think I can afford another Aquatica because I would have to replace all the ports etc. and I retired from the 'buy more photography gear, money train' about 6 years ago.

    regards

  8. Hi Vandit,

Sea&Sea focus gear arrived today. It fits in the Hugyfot housing and is working fine :P
