Video surveillance systems (off-topic)

  1. Hello, all. I urgently need advice about what kind of video surveillance system to get. Our building is under attack by thieves (car stolen out of the garage last night), and we want to make sure we have the building's common areas recorded. We have video footage of the two people who stole the car because there was already a camera in the garage, but we need more cameras to track movement inside the building if it happens again.

We need a 6-8 camera system with the best black + white, low-light cameras we can find. The video should be recorded onto a hard disk (existing computer, probably).

Thanks, in advance, for any tips you might be able to lend us!

Someone I know for very similar reasons just had this brand installed

I think those to be exact. They have some pretty special abilities in the dark. He has one colour one at a main entrance way as well same brand but in the night time they seem to pick up a huge distance with good quality.

Granted I know of no others but thought i would offer that up.

  4. We use Axis cameras to protect our office building and our 3 datacenters. They activate on motion and upload the image to a remote server.

The ones we use are a few generations older, so im sure they're much smaller and better now. Would be nice to have power-over-ethernet so you dont have to install power everywhere.

Unfortunately I cant comment on low-light surroundings, we make sure there are no low-light areas. For instance by using motion activated lights.

  5. Eric,

Although I only have experience with their webcams, StarDot Technologies has some solutions for that too.

I installed webcams at Castaway Island in Fiji and Scuba Club Cozumel, and both have been in place for several years and still working flawlessly. They offered excellent support during the install and have been very nice to deal with.

They also offer security and monitoring systems.
