blurred edges with canon S80

  1. Hi

i just switched from the good old NIKONOS to a Canon S80 with an ikelite housing and a DS-125 strobe. The first impression is that the photos are of fair quality, but all have a major problem: the center of the pictures gets well focused but the edges always stay blurry and out of focus. I have been using f5.6 to f8 and the widest angle of the camera zoom. Any idea why this happens, is it manageable or just poor quality of the housing port? In the air, the camera shows no problem, it's a simple but nice compact, reasonable quality, no lens defect.

    Thanks for any help

  2. Hi J,

You're shooting a norml to "wide" angle lens through a flat port - that's the main reason for the distortion. This can be corrected by adding an Inon wideangle lens.

    Cheers

    James

  3. Thanks a lot James, that's it, the "wide" in the s80 is 24mm, enough to get distortion with the flat port. I confess it hadn't even ocurred me...will try to buy the INON lens.

    cheers

    J
