  1. Did a shore dive at the campsite in Marsa Bareika, Ras Mohamed Park.

Used a sigma 105mm lens, DS50 and olympus fl20 strobes for the photos.

I have never seen that yellow lip thingy before. Very cool.

  3. Hi Nikki

Lovely subjects, I'd spend half a dive on that chelidonura...

Would you please tell me more about the campsite at Marsa Bareika. I've had it up to 'here' years ago with the zoo at Trevco / Sharm / Naama. The new dive village at Sharks Bay caught my eye and is ever so convenient for Tiran but its a long push to Ras. Maybe Bareika will do the trick? Grateful for your info, thanks. Tim

  6. Thanks for the positive comments.

Finding good dives in Sharm is getting more diffucult.

However if you search a bit, you are able to dive some pristine dive sites.

The campsite dive sites in Ras Mohamed is only accessable by shore and

no boats ever go there. Also not many know about them. Driving from Sharm

you are looking at least 30 minutes travel time to reach them. It is possible to

arrange overnight camping which is very nice.

If you are in search of something realy special head out to Nabq Park.

Located at the most northern end of Sharm, the Nabq park starts...

Here you will find pristine corals, the most northerly mangroves in the world,

reefs mixed with seagrass fields. Very special and no other divers.

I have done many dives here and have almost never seen other divers.

    Have some examples below:

  7. Thanks for the info Nikki. I guess Bareika dosn't have a diving camp established, just a place to park up, pitch a tent and go diving. That being the case I guess I'll have to hire a car and find a dive centre to rent me cylinders. Perhaps Nick at the Oonas Dive Club will help...

Yes Tim if you are able to rent a car and get some tanks you could literally dive Ras Mohamed

from shore everyday. Campsite has 6 different sites - untouched, then you also have Quays

(very underrated), Shark Observatory, Eel garden (only calm conditions), Jackfish Alley (only

    calm conditions) and Anemone city.

However if you get a car you can also visit Nabq - subject to calm conditions you will have

access to about 8 different sites including a wreck - the maria schroeder.

    Cheers

  9. Nikki, it occurs to me that permission may be needed to dive within the boundary of Ras Mohammed National Park and Nabq Managed Resource Protected Area. Is this the case? Thanks.

  10. Following on from my last, I heard today from the Oonas Dive Club at Naama bay that all dives in Sinai must be guided and conducted by an authorised dive centre. Apparently that's Egyptian law.

So it seems as though hiring a car, cylinders and weights and just heading off to Bareika or Naqb is not possible, unless you could advise otherwise...

I expect the alternative of hiring a guide and tying up a vehicle and driver is likely to be cost prohibative.

  11. Hi Tim

I have checked as well and yes you do need permissions to dive these

sites. Even shore dives from Sharksbay, Ras Umm Sid (some of the local

sites) must be accommopanied by a dive center permission, guide and copy

of the guide's card (not the instructor card but a CDWS card).

Ras Umm Sid has always been like that but they only recently started

checking for example at Sharksbay (within the last week) etc...as well.

This was not the case last year as you could easily rent tanks from

    some of the filling stations.

So the only way to organize the dives will be through a dive center...

However I have seen many dive centers in Dahab advertising dive trips

to Nabq Park and some in Sharm as well and I have seen many dive centers

in Sharm advertising Ras Mohamed by shore. So if you join an existing trip it

should not cost you too much.

    Cheers
