RescuePro works fairly well. There are others also. Is this on a card or computer? DataRescue also has has one for the Mac one works well (also have a PC version)

In the past I have used other software, but moved away from them

The one thing to do immediately is nothing - in other words do not use the computer if on the computer, it helps make recovery easier.

  4. Is this on a card or computer?

On the card, I was soaking the housing, pushing buttons and didn´t realize camera was still on... somehow I erased at least two keepers... uuurghhh!!

RescuePro is a good one, comes with SanDisks cards (maybe others) as a bonus

You can get it here (including a demo, which will let you see if image can be recovered but will not recover in demo mode)

As James mentioned PhotoRescue is another one and there is a demo here

  7. I have RescuePro (the one mentioned here earlier, comes with with Sandisk cards) on my mac, and have helped a couple of people recover deleted photos off their cards.

The prosoft software mentioned earlier is also good. I have the "Data Security Suite" which includes a backup utility, a file undelete utility, and also a disk recovery utility.
