PNG Liveaboards

  1. My buddy and I have opted for a liveaboard over land based in PNG. That being said I would like some suggestions on which boat to choose.

We will be going in middle/end of March 2009. We have looked into FeBrina, any othe suggestions?

    Thanks!!

  2. M.V. Golden Dawn-hands down.

  3. I vote for the Alan Raabe boats. Either the FeBrina or the Stardancer. Both are very nice boats and really well run. I believe their iteneraries are the best also. Alan has forgotten more about diving in PNg than most will ever know.

I think more important than which boat is what you want to see, what your budget is and your requirements of the boats (EAN, ensuite bathrooms etc). We can't help you without more information as everyone will just spout the boat they have been on most.

For eg, Alan's knowledge of Kimbe/Rabaul is awesome. But in Milne Bay, Rob Van Der Loos has more dives in the area than anyone. The Golden Dawn/Telita is the only ops going out to the Eastern Fields and the Ninigo and Hermit islands from Wewak. The dolphins at Ninigo are an awesome treat if they charge (which is very rare and very hard to catch underwater).

It's never an easy choice.

Who runs the Telita now? I know the Halsteads no longer run the op. There schedule is formatted exactly the same way as the Golden Dawn. Hmmm.

  6. Craig bought the Telita 2 years back I think.
