canon powershot a720 is

Hi All,

Nice site! I am newbie to UW Photos and looking at getting a Point and shoot Camera. I found a good deal on a canon powershot a720 is for 170 and a case for 160. Would this be a good deal? A good starter camera for UW photos? Has anyone had experience with this camera? I am also impressed by the Magic Filter shots I have seen here. Would this work as well?

Hi Brian,

Not 100% sure about the Canon A720 IS but can highly recommend the Canon A570 IS. I have the A570 with the Canon WPDC12 housing, this is my first underwater setup and is very simple to use, allowing for both full automatic or full manual control.

I think it is about the same as yours just 8 mg rather than 5. Now to convince the wife

There is roughly 1 mp difference in the two cameras 7 v 8. In this range of p & S probably insignificant. 30-60 US dollars difference in the two with the A 720 being higher and maybe 20-30 dollars more for the housing. Prices vary. Big difference is the oval port on the 720 Canon housing which will not accept an AD mount. Both are 2xAA battery cameras so power/recycle times should be equivalent.
