Olympus E-420 in Olympus Housing

  1. Hi All

Just spoke to an engineer at Olympus and he informed me that the E-420 is slightly slimmer than the E-410 and may not work in the PT-E03 Olympus housing. He did say that he thought the buttons are all in the same place so it may be OK. Needs someone to check it when they become available.

Thought a couple of you might like to know this.

  2. Hi ardy

    thats quite interesting

especially if the buttons are in the same place because the carriage it slots onto might be able to be altered

slimmer you wont be able to see these cameras soon !

  3. hi

i just looked on the olympus global site and from the specs and pictures on the site it virtually looks like the bodies are the same in dimensions and where the buttons are , just the screen looks a bit bigger

then again the site also states the screens are the same dimensions in the spec so there could be errors in the spec dimensions

Hi Vinny just went to your site and checked the photo's closely. The dimensions mention that it excludes protusions. If you look closely at the photo's the E-420 looks wider not narrower as the grip comes out further.

May have to wait and see.

  5. hi ardy

yes i see what you mean

it will be a shame if it wont fit the old housing

i am also surprised they haven't put image stabilisation on the camera like the E510

  6. The PT-E02 is no longer in production, and the remaining stock on retailer's shelves is all that will be available.

Olympus America says the new camera will have a housing, but I've seen no confirmation.

  7. It seems that their is little difference between the bodies of the E-410 and E-420 other than a larger

right hand grip and LCD that is 1/5 th inch larger but fits in the same area as the E-410 screen. It seems it would take little modification to make the E-420 fit in the E-410, PT-E03 housing.

Regarding I.S. it is available on the E-510 for $100.00 more and I am sure it will be on the E-520 when it is announced.

  8. just to let you know....

Olympus is not making a housing for the E420! I think it is not wise of them to do so, because they were doing a great job for the underwaterphotography...

I hope they will make a housing for the 520 to come....

  9. I agree with Karin, the PT-E03 housing for the E-410 has been sold out at Olympus America for some time now and regardless of the listed price most dealers are also out of stock and will not be getting any more housings no matter what they are telling customers.

The PT-E03 is a great little housing for the price and the package produces excellent results.

I think it is short sighted of Olympus not to have a redesigned PT-E03 housing for the E-420. An E-510 housing would require a complete new design and the upside of Image stabilization would be limited in U/W photography. I. Q. will likely be the same between the two cameras. Not to provide a path for upgrade to those who have invested in ports, gears and other assorted equipment is wrong.

I can understand Olympus partnering with Nexus on the E-3 housing because it is a much more expensive camera/housing combo which is not Olympus forte, but to leave the E-420 to outside venders in hopes someone will build an inexpensive housing that excepts Oly ports is a gamble.

  10. Although it won't be as small as an Olympus housing, Ikelite is going to make one for the E-420.
