Housing build quantities

  1. To be honest I am not expecting an answer but another thread on this board suggests that a single company has a "few hundred" advanced orders for a D300 housing.

To be honest I am a bit stunned - I thought that the market was smaller than that. So, anyone with a bit of background care to stick their head over the wall?

How big are the markets for some of these housings ?

  2. HI Paul,

I dont know much about leadin time over the D300, but it took me 6months

to get my Seacam D200 housing & it is still only 7/8 months old now. I was

told that my one was the second one in the UK, & that most manufacturers

could not keep up with models on sale now with out the new one coming out.

Seacam do model runs so I would think that most other manufacturers do the same.

When I went to Ocean Optics before christmas Steve said the D80 housing (subal)

leadin time was about 4/5 months. So the reason they are well priced apart from the

engineering is that we all (well almost) want the newest housings.

This is only my view on this matter.

    Take Care,

    Andy ;):D;)

  3. Yer - I didn't expect an answer really Andy - it just seemed that a claim that a single company had orders for 'A few hundred' D300 housings - well it seemed a bit far fetched to be honest, forced to guess I would suggest that the worldwide market was about that size.

Also it seems that most are now chewing housings out of a solid lump of materiel which is classic 'short lead time / short production run' work. If you ever get a chance to see a five axis CNC mill in operation take it - they are wild to watch.

No news on Sudan as yet - the mad lawyer is up for it which should be a laugh.

Wheels have come totally off my trips so far this year - last trip was binned two days before I got on the plane.
