SEABOB

  1. I was wondering if anyone had info on the SEABOBS?

    These things look great.

We sold our Apollo scooters as they just did not do it for us anymore.

Free diving with ones of these would be fun.

  2. That's got to be 10mph....that is fast. I'm not sure if I'd be comfortable porposing in great white territory.

  3. Yeh you kind of would want to put some mirrors on it to see what's coming from behind you.

I wonder if you can put a power prop on them to go even faster. :D

  4. hi wagsy,

we have 4 seabobs here in the resort i am working in. they ARE big fun! and they are fast. you have to close your boerdshorts well ... or you will loose them. i go out once in a while with them. some weeks ago we had a pod of dolphins in front of the island and we joined them with the seabobs. absolutely amazing. the dolphin came behind the bobs under water ...

you definetly want to try them. they can go to 40m. we have them electronically blocked on 2,5 for the customers eardrums. but luckily i know the code to unlock :)

  5. Hi Serge

    Thanks for that info.

Sounds wonderful and right up my alley.

Have you got a rough idea how much they cost?

  6. Anyone up for doing a SEABOB test run over at GUADALUPE ISLAND, Mexico???

Or if this is too generic, what about trying one out at False Bay at Seal Island, South Africa??? :)

  7. That's over $16,000 AUD :)

I'm sure they will cost allot more here because everything else does.

Well that rules me out.... unless I can get one wholesale or something.

  8. yes. they are expensive. i think they were even a bit more pricy when we got them here ...

i also heard the chargers are better now ... we had some issues with the chargers before. with the new ones it works better.

Call me for a quote Paul :-) ... I have an ex DEMO Seabob VX2 going real cheap. - well cheap for a Seabob.

Riding one of them is just like flying underwater - amazing and nothing like you've ever done before - I remember going diving with you ages ago and your Apollo scooter. This one is unlike a normal scooter as it can go on the surface as well. And FAST !

  10. When we were on a Wetpixel JASA trip last year Jim had one that was 'borrowed for testing'.

Have to tell you the thing is awesome - it has more pull than anyone can deal with. While it can in no way keep up with dolphins it sure does keep them amused.

When I spoke to him earlier this year it turned out that even Jim failed to break it - so it has to be tough as well.

Think the one that he was trying was 25K USD which is I agree a bit stiff but a cracking bit of kit.

  11. Jack McCoy has been using a SeaBob with a video camera attached via custom housing mount and dome for Dolphin POV shots in his surf movies for a while - like Jim he needs indestructable equipment.
