I own both a Canon Eos 40D and a 400D and I'm getting a housing for either one of them...but which should I choose? I will get the Ikeltite housing
The only reason I see to house the 400 is the cheaper price. Handling would be better on the 40 I would think...or is it?
I also own a sigma 10-20 lens which I planned to get a port to as well. On the Ike website ot says you could fit it in a 6" dome or the 8" dome. Would it work in the 6" at 10mm without any shading or vignetting? Or should I go for the bigger 8"? And what about zoom gear for the port. is it possible?
Thanks!

Would suggest the 8" over the 6" dome wise - I had problems with reflections with the smaller dome - the larger one is more expensive but better.

If you intend to change both the aperture and the shutterspeed yourself then house the 40D - as it has 2 command dials. The 40D also have a bigger viewfinder that is much easier to see through underwater.

James has hit the nail on the head. Add in the fact that, though the 400D is smaller, the Ike housings for the two cameras are the same size and I'd say housing the 40D is the obvious choice . . .

On the Ike housing, the plastic zoom gear attaches to the lens with a spring clamp, and the gear is driven from a knob on the housing. So the zoom control is independent of whatever dome you use. This means you must use autofocus - which is usually not a problem for wide angle lenses.
I also vote for the 40D - if you are worried the cost difference, buy a rider on your homeowners (my policy last year on previous system was $55 for a 20D in an Ike housing, including 3 lenses and 2 strobes).

I have a 400D Ikelite housing and am not bothered by moving the arpeture/exposure knob on and off detent to switch comand from Arpeture to shutter control. I have had some low light auto focus tracking problems but I'm not sure how much of this is me and how much is the camera. I recently switch to a Nikon D300 but haven't housed it yet.
