Sea & Sea Optical Dome Port Case (Any Pics out there?)

  1. I have searched and searched online for a picture or description for info about the port case that comes with the Sea & Sea Optical Dome port...... no luck.

Can someone give me a description? Is it a hard case? Is it sturdy enough to pack/check in for air travel with my dive gear?

I have all must DSLR gear arriving just in time for a month long trip. Need to plan how to pack my gear. Any help here is appreciated. I have read the sticky thread on packing and transporting gear too. Very useful.

  2. I use a Rubbermaid cake storage container for my 8" S&S port. It fits perfectly and I put in a little foam so it will not jiggle around inside. Rubbermaid makes smaller containers (Tupperware might work too) if your using the smaller glass port. It is inexpensive, durable, easily purchased (housewares section in grocery stores) and most importantly lightweight! :D Good luck on your new rig.

eskasi. The port case is pictured on page 20 of the Sea & Sea 2008 catalog. It's in the 12/1/2007 version. They try to hide their marketing material. Good luck packing it all in. I've decided to hire a sherpa. :D

  4. I pulled it out of the PDF to save you the 7MB download. :D

I wouldn't toss it in with dive gear unless you pack clothing or a wetsuit around it.

  5. Actually, I just looked at the dome case again, and it is pretty sturdy. Unless there is some serious impact, it will probably protect the dome.

Still... it's easy to be paranoid... :D

  6. Thank you so much guys! You are all so very helpful. :D

I think I may put the dome port and case into another hard plastic box before packing with the rest of my stuff....it seems sturdy but I would like to protect against it being crushed. Hmm.....if there is space in that same box, I may use it to put other bits and pieces such as clamps, my stix arms, etc.
