The weather gods were behaving themselves last weekend and I managed to make it out to San Miguel on the Truth. Conditions were quite nice. Although my photography was less than inspired, I did manage to bring home a few keepers. The best part of the trip is that DUI replaced my defective ZipGloves and the new ones actually kept my hands dry! It was very nice to have warm fingers even though the water was 50F.

Hi Dr Steve,
Looks like fun. We must have tried to get to Miguel 15 times or more and the weather always blew us back to Cruz or Anacapa. I was convinced that San Miguel was a figment of some rum soaked boat captains imagination. Congrats for getting out on a good day! It looks like the kelp is doing OK from your images. Nice capture on the Miss sealion, tough shot when they are whissing around showing off, she's a beauty.
Steve
My success rate for outer island trips has historically been about 1 trip in 3. However, lately I have been using the fact that I live 10 minutes from the SB harbor to my advantage. I wait until midweek before the dive and check the forecast. If it looks good I book the trip. Since the 3 day forecasts are pretty reasonable, I have been able to push my success ratio closer to 1:2. It is just one more little perk to living in paradise.
