I noticed Ikelite sells a housing for the Canon S5 IS, but I haven't seen it mentioned at all here. With the flash shoe, and optional wide-angle adapter, I figured it has some potential. Has anybody used it underwater?

I am wondering the exact same thing.
Considering you can get a 8.0 MP with 12x Zoom in a case for around $1000, I am very interested in doing a set up like this, but I'm wondering if anyone else has tried it.
Currently I am shooting a Nikon 995 with a DS-125 (NO LAUGHING! I HEAR YOU!).
I like to use large zooms when I'm shooting on dry land, and the zoom on this guy is pretty large.
Most of my diving is in Puget Sound, so its important that the macro ability be good, while Wide Angle takes a back seat here, most of the year.

I shoot a CP5000, so I'm only a year ahead of you!
I've played around with one on land, although not underwater. My thoughts from it were that it's macro abilities weren't great, and that that x10 zoom lens is a waste underwater. Also not sure how it would go with adding wet lenses on there due to the length of the lens, at least with the newer G series, Ikelite were able to offer a shorter port to be used.
Great camera for above water though.
If you're looking for a point and shoot that will work really well for both, go for the G series (now G9). If you're wanting more zoom than x6, you can put on a teleconvertor.
Cheers,
Ryan.

So you think the advantages of the G9 (better sensor, better optics) outweigh the cost?
It seems like a lot of people here are using the G9 or G7... How is the macro on that guy? DPreview said it has a 1cm macro. Have to admit I don't quite know what that means.
That seems about right, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I take it it means it will focus on an object about 1cm in front of the lens (or is it the sensor?). The macro works quite well on it, i've had nudi's pretty much touching the housing's port before, and been able to get a sharp photo. Can always add a wet macro lens, such as the inon, something i have not done yet, but plan to do in the near future. There's more information on this in other topics.
The one thing that I didn't like with the S5 is that you can't focus on something really close to the camera. Maybe a macro lens would change this, I'm not sure.
I've got the G7, I love it, and until I can afford to house a dSLR, I'm very happy to be using it. If you do a search, you'll find a LOT of topics about the G7 from when it first came out, with some of us learning as we went and sharing on here, and then about the G9 when it took over. There's a couple about using a wide angle lens on these cameras too.
The pics in my gallery are taken with the G7 too (except the first 3 or 4, they're with an older A75).

Nice pictures! That one of the diver behind the turtle is really cool. Sure, its not what you might consider the "perfect shot", but the expression on the diver is really cool, and its an interesting angle.
Thanks for the advice. I will give the G9 a good long look, for sure.
Thanks Henry! That was the first dive with that camera, was very happy with it on that day (and most days since!).
