unable to fire flashes

17 posts
  1. My buddy & I both shoot D200 nikons. we both use aquatixca housings, he uses an ikelite ttl external converter with two ds125 strobes. I use a heinrich converter with dual inons. both of use are now unable to fire flashes. He can switch and fire in manual mode both of us get r21 displayed in the lcd window when we press the shutter. it does not matter if the camera is in or out of the housing still unable to fire. tried changing cords, batteries, switching cameras. Firmware on D200 is 2.0

    Nothing seems to work.

Please help as we are on a dive trip

    thanks

  2. Do the Inon's fire in wireless mode with just the camera, no housing?

  3. do not have optical d cables, can't figure how how to set the inons to use the built in sensor, so the answer is no.

  4. both my inons and my friends ikelites do the same thing he at least can get his to work in manual mode, with the heinrich internal converter I am stuck, unless someone has some ideas?

  5. i think the heinrichs is easy to remove no? i haven't seen it myself but thought it was just screwed in there. should then give you manual strobe?

  6. You don't need optical D cables. Take the cap where off the sensor. Its on the bottom of the strobe in front of the mount. Place the Inon selector switch in s-ttl and hold it in your had as you fire the camera. Camera should have the internal flash raised to trigger the Inon. If that works, it means that the strobe is good and you either have a bum cable or a bad converter.

  7. I think the inons are bad, both do not work in slave mode as above or in manual mode, the best they will do is have the red ready light on , which I can get to change to top half red bottom green but no flash. this happens if I take the camera out of the housing pop up the flash disconnect the inons, unscrew the slave cover and fire the camera. I have a new inon coming today to try.

I suspect they inos are internally fried.

  8. Very sorry to hear that. It sounds odd that both would be fried. I don't know if I'd trust hooking another up to the converter right away.

  9. What type of Batteries did you use.

I had an Inon die on me ( luckily the 2nd was still working). I was told that it was because I was using 2700mAh Batteries.

The symptoms were that everything seemed to work, including Focus Light. It just did not want to Flash.

I am using D80, heinrichs and 2*Inon's. I am only using 2500mAh Batteries now and no problems anymore.

After reading a bit about the new verson of the Z240, version 3. I have learned that they had problems with Heat dissipation already in the previous version.

  10. was using 2500 mAh sanyos,

will be sending them back to inon for repair?

  11. They told me that the type 2 should be fine with the 2500mAh.

Well, I can only wish you good luck with the repair.

  12. Thanks for the heads up on the 2700mAh batteries - I have just bought two Z240'S Type II and have a plie of 2700's. Think I'm gonna change to Eneloops just to be safe

  13. Hi,

    Please, check Ikelite website for special cable and/or use this old trick;

  14. Andrew: You are welcome. It is unnecessary that it happens to someone else as well.

It seems that the 2700mAh is a bit on the Tolerance limit. One of the Strobes did not like it and the other one worked just fine.

I have also switched to Eneloops now, in order to be safe.

  15. I will be switching to Eneloops too.... having many problems with many brands of 2700s on my Sea & Sea YS110's.....

Pardon my ignorance, but how will using 2700 MAh Eneloops pervent strobe problems?

  17. eskasi,

FYI, I've been using duracell 2650mAh fast rechargables for about 200 dives with my YS-110's, they work great, the strobes work for at least 3 dives (200-300 shots), and the batteries recharge in 15 minutes.

it takes 2-3 charge cycles for them to fully charge when you get them new though, so beware.
