Funny Little Shrimp & Puff Cheek Blenny?

  1. Hello Again from sunny St. Vincent!

Please would you be able to help me ID this shrimp? I have chech the ID books but can't find it - I at first thought that it might be a Two Claw Shrimp (Brachycarpus biunguiculatus) but this shrimp does not have 2 large claws...can they grow them back if they loose one? Or is this shrimp defective? ;-0

I have attached 2 pictures - sorry for the quality.

By the way on the same dive got a not so good shot of what I think may be a Puff Cheek Blenny (Labrisomus Bucciferus) - confirmation of my ID would be a great assistance...

    Thanks again

    Kay Wilson,

    Indigo Dive,

    St. Vincent.

  2. I can't help with the blenny sorry, but I believe you were right about Brachycarpus biunguiculatus. They easily lose and regrown their limbs. The leg with the large claw is missing on the right; the leg with the small claw is their grooming leg.

  3. In Humann et al's Reef Fish, the Puffcheek and Palehead blennies are pretty similar looking. However, the Palehead has a "dark blotch behind the eye", which the Puffcheek does not. Yours has one, so my guess would be Palehead blenny: Labrisomus gobio.

    Cheers,

    Marli
