Best "don't know what you'll see lens????"

So for Nikon my "all around" lens is the Nikon 17-55mm 2.8VR.

If there better? If so why? What is the best "all around" lens and is that behind a flat port or dome?

sigma 17-70? i know it does macro as well..

never used it though..

some of my friends love the sigma 17-70 as an all around lens.. I personally don't have one..they use a dome port...

one possible advantage might be a max mag. ratio of 1:2.3 vs 1:5 for the 17-55

another advantage might be price, $390 vs $1199

I have to admit, having spent a week end with the Sigma 17-70, I want one, its a good moderate wide angle, has a more than decent close up capabillity, is pretty sharp, inexpensive I mean overall a very good package, makes my 2.8 lenses blush, I am definelty gettin one. Just keep in mind there are two version of this lenses when ordering the zoom gear, HSM or NOT

And behind a dome, please, at 17 in a flat port, barf corner city!

With the Sigma what extension rings would you need for the Aquatica and the 9.5" dome?

I bought the Sigma 17-70 as an all-around topside lens for my Canon 40D never thinking of taking it underwater. Anyone have any recommendations as to what extension ring I might need to use it with my Subal FE2 dome port?

The proper extension is 18462 according to my calculation for both the 9.25'' & the 8''.
