Fuji S2

  1. Are there any Fuji S2 experts out there? A friend of mine on my photo tour to PNG is traveling with only one S2 body and it just came up with ERR message. Shutter is locked in the up position, and tried new batteries in both compartments.

Does anyone have an suggestions for a user-fix while we are here in e-mail range (next 24-hours).

Thanks to anyone with experience or inspiration.

  2. You have to be cautious when doing this. Do not go anywhere near the shutter. See if while batteries are in the camera and it is turned on you can lower the mirror. Just a slight bit of pressure. Also, if you are able to access the menu, try a system reset. One other remedy, if the batteries are still in the camera, take them out for period of time. While doing all this, leave the CR123 or whatever the suffix is out of the camera. You may have put new ones in, but that does not mean they are good. THe camera will operate just fine without them. Good Luck.

  3. Is the mirror also locked in the up position? If so its worth just 'flicking' it (pulling it down slightly and releasing it). The older Nikon FE suffered from a problem sometimes which from memory was a trip not being activated by the mirror so the camera stopped working with the shutter tripped and the mirror up and the S2 is based on a F80 film camera so its worth a try if desperate. If not I would try the battery suggestions and then if it still won't work ship it to a repair shop I'm afraid. You might also try running it from the power adapter if its available. My old S2Pro demo housing has just been p/exed back to me complete with original camera (£1800 new!!!) which, despite a lot of work is still going strong - they seem to be pretty reliable generally.
