tioman island

dear fellow divers

Me and my girlfriend plan to visit tioman island in malaysia in august for a diving holiday.

has anyone visited this island and wishes to give us some feedback?

last year we went to bunaken in sulawesi indonesia and had the dining of my life!!!! unfortunatelly my girlfriend is not a diver and this year i want to take her somewhere with more attractions.

If you liked Bunaken, then you'll be disappointed in Tioman. The diving around Aur/Rawai is merely an excuse to get wet for Malaysians and Singaporeans. It's a bit of a mess with plenty of resorts all over the place. Unless you like wrecks, where the HMS Prince of Wales and Repulse as well as a dutch sub are available for advanced technical divers. 7 skies and the anambas islands are pretty decent but I doubt you can do day trips for those.

Since it's august, I suggest Bali over Tioman. You get better diving and the gf has better spas to choose from.

I agree about Bali....I have been to Tioman. I will admit that there can be times in the year when the diving can be ok with better vis. However, the diving itself is nothing really spectacular. I was not impressed.

Do yourself a favor and go to Sipadan if you can...diving there is way better and the resort on stilts can be quite romantic..... I will say though that if she does not dive, Bali is your best bet.... If I were in your position though, I would go to Sipadan and compromise by going somewhere else the GF wants to go. A few days of incredible diving far outweighs a few weeks of mediocre diving!
