Gaping hole

  1. In addition to the port flooding incident my heart was also made to race in Thailand when I dropped the back plate of my housing and snapped a push button control on my Subal. This cause the button to fall out and a gaping hole to appear in the back plate of my housing!

I only dropped the housing back from the height of a couple of inches. It slipped from my hand as I was taking it off and the inside of the control caught the strobe arm and snapped. It seemed a totally freak accident - and I am curious if anyone else has had a similar one.

The button in question was the delete button - and many jokes were made at how my overuse of this control probably contributed to its weakness. :(

I was able to reinsert the button and hold it in place with some homemade plastic washers (thanks to Anthony Holley) for his tools and materials.

And it was a totally reliable seal after that time. Although I lost the use of the control (not a problem as I don't take bad pictures ).

Despite these minor incident I did manage to get the odd decent image in Thailand. I'll post some soon.

  2. Egads........, not seen that.

Alex I think considering this post combined with your "flood" post - well are you looking for an excuse for a D3?

  3. He is saving for a D3x!

Just needs an insurance claim form and will be good to go..........

  4. I think the best solution to that problem is drilling another hole in the bottom of the housing so the water can come back out!
