81A filter pool photography

  1. The 81A seems to be so lite... i wonder if it will make a difference in a pool...

Did someone ever tryed that filter underwater?

  2. I use it in Photoshop sometimes but haven't tried it underwater :-)

  3. My opinion is that if you are going to mess with a filter, it should be strong enough to make a considerable difference. An 81A is quite weak and all it addresses is color temperature. Green balance is every bit as important to correct underwater.

A filter adds some amount of optical degradation due to the extra element. It can reduce contrast, increase flare and is one more piece you need to keep clean. Make sure that using it really counts.

  4. I would say - instead of using a filter, select the pool so that you get the light you want. A pool with a white or blue/white bottom can be really hard to work with - as the reflected light can make your photos look horrible. Select a pool w/ a darker bottom if you can find one. Alternatively, shoot in the evening or after dark, so that all of the light comes from your strobes.

  5. Thank you very much. I'll study another filter. I have a bad feeling.
