  1. I took a first for me step into the digital age this week with a new D300-I'm a die hard film guy who plans on shooting this body topside awhile-off on a 10 day camping trip to backside of Sierra's-Mono lake -Owens valley -Death valley.I'll put this into a used subal housing when you guys are selling them for 1/2 price in a few years. This should be a good training body to learn digital. You're doing exactly what I did with the D70S, except you're doing it with the D300. I bought the D70S to learn digital, shot with it topside for quite a while, then bought a used Subal housing for 1/2 price from ReefPhoto. It's worked out well for me.

Be sure to post and let us know how a "film guy" is doing with digital photography.

    Congrats on going digital!

  3. Good luck, Mark.

I am sure you will enjoy it. Interested to hear how you resist going straight out and getting a housing, once you have tried the D300 topside.

Make sure you have enough power for the D300 on your camping trip!

p.s. There should be a Subal D300 review up on Wetpixel in a couple of days...

  4. I only managed to resist a month and just bought an Ike housing :D

Ha..Thats a good one...I tried to trick myself too...I thought i would shoot topside with my D300 for a while. Infact i had to as i was waiting for my housing to be shipped over from Japan,,,First i waited for the camera, than the housing. I did not wait to get it wet. I have been using it for the past two weeks solid, shooting in Lembeh Straits.

    This thing is awesome.

There are some photos right out of the camera on my blog, check them out.

I attached a pic of an Imperialshrimp riding the Cerata of a Solar powered Nud...

  6. I think you are better off actually shooting for a few years on a sub-par plastic housing rather than waiting and dreaming for a chick magnet housing that'll cost just as much but that's just me

It looks like you have a stack of film gear and the experience to make fantastic images in the meantime, so I don't think you'll be missing out. But I think once you try digital underwater you'll be hooked. It hooked me. :D

Beautiful portfolio. I am assuming you use a host of lenses... what is your favorite macro/wide and why? Any of them used topside?
