Socorro Islands (aka Revillagigedos)

  1. If you or anybody you know has been to the Socorro Islands to take photos of the mantas and sharks, I could use your help. I'm a grad student, researching the past abundances of sharks and mantas around those isolated islands, and I'm relying on the dive community for data.

I'm an avid diver myself, and I think divers possess valid knowledge that can be useful to scientists. If you have dove on the islands, please take a second to fill out a survey I put together. Click here to fill it out.

If you know somebody who might have some helpful info, you can contact me at abaske@ucsd.edu.

I am also interested in any pictures or videos from the area. Let me know if you can help.

Thanks a ton, and happy diving

  2. Adam -

I approached you at the SDUPS meeting in early March regarding this survey and asked whether you'd like me to leave information for you with the divemasters/crew of our liveaboard, and you told me that your research was well-known by those who travel to this area. FYI, this survey was not announced or otherwise mentioned at any time during my trip. I suggest you recontact the liveaboard crews.

I'm presenting a travel log/photos at the May SDUPS meeting, if you're interested.

    Best,

    Allison
