Whispers about the Titan?

6 posts
  1. Has anyone heard anything about the recurrent delays on the Light and Motion Titan. I've had one on order for months, and they keep pushing back the release date. One week ago they were pressure testing in preparation for shipping, but yesterday they pushed back the release 2 wks.

The most frustrating thing is that I bought the camera 2mos ago expecting to have the housing by now, and since then they've announced a sizeable price drop on the camera (E-20). Sucks, huh. Has anyone heard anything? Is this typical of Light and Motion and other housing mfctrs?

  2. I heard from them yesterday that they have the first run in QC, and hope to be shipping by the end of this week.

You're right, camera prices have dropped! If you used a crecit card to purchase your camera, you may be eligible for price protection.

I think production delays are the norm for any manufacturer, particularly with a brand new product.

The first batch of Tetras was about 30 days late shipping, and I know Ikelite has had product delays on new housings as well.

It's the price you pay for being on the bleeding edge!

  3. Just got word... Titans are done!

The first batch ships Monday. Those lucky enough to live in Monterrey get hand deliveries this p.m.

  4. Richard,

Since you seem to be a BIGsupporter of Light and Motion, maybe you can explain why they sell there wet mate lens for the Tetra for $900,I spoke with Dan at Land M and he confirmed to me that they use the Inon lens, this lens is available for around $400,I even got a quote from MCD for $350.Now to use the lens on the Tetra you require an adapter ring,no problem I will buy the ring from Land M and get the lens from MCD,this will not happen because L and M will not just sell you the adapter ring. This means this magical ring is costing around $500! Is this wet mate lens also being used on the Titan? And is it the same price?

  5. Well, we all have products that we like and a quick tour of this forum will make that evident. You are correct that I like L&M products, I think they are excellent, but I try not to get in anybody's face about it

And, no, I can't explain your claim, but maybe someone from L&M can jump on here and explain it for you...

I also do not know if the wetmate lenses are the same for the Tetra and Titan, but I'll try to find out.

I can confirm that the retail prices for the Titan lenses are:

    Macro - $500

    W/A - $1100

    Package - $1500

... so I can only assume that they are not the same lenses.

  6. I believe that the LMI non-wetmate wide angle lens is $400, just like the Inon. Is that the same lens as well? I agree that the $500 adapter is expensive, but LMI seems to charge the same as Inon for the actual lens.

I don't think that LMI gouges any more than the other housing manufacturers when you consider the durability of their systems and the customer support that they offer. I think we'll get the real picture of how high the margins are on this type of equipment when Olympus, Sony, and others start expanding their housing lineups. It will certainly be interesting.
