Canon XL H1S and XL H1A

  1. Looks like Canon will have a couple of new versions of the Canon XL H1 at NAB.

The two models are the XL H1S ($8999.00) and XL H1A ($5999.00).

It loooks like the biggest difference between the two is that that XL H1S will have HD-SDI outputs and the XL H1A will not. This is exactly what Canon did with the XH A1 and XH G1.

The Canon 20X zoom lens has been redesigned. From the press release "The XL H1S and XL H1A HD camcorders' new Genuine Canon 20x HD Video Zoom Lens III offers independent manual zoom, focus and iris rings, which can operate simultaneously"

  2. Yes and look at the WB range, 2k - 15k, which is great for MWB filtered shots without lights.

Canon is staying with the core audience of event shooters by not getting tempted with going progressive scan. But those sensors are so high resolution that it beats all other HDV camcorders. And being CCD, it doesn't suffer from rolling shutter issues.

I am a bit disappointed that Canon didn't answer Sony's MRC1 flash module.
