Fish in Great Barrier Reef

  1. Hi everybody, I just found this site. Last night I got a copy of Reef Fish identification Tropical Pacific, by Allen, Steene, Humann and Deloach. I need to study it . In the meantime I'll post some of my pictures taken with an Olympus stylus 790. Any help with identification would be appreciated. I know some are obvious, but I don't believe the first fish is in the book.

Thanks, I look forward to exploring this site. Rob from Boston

  4. #7 .. likely to be a Bicolour Parrotfish [Cetoscarus bicolor]

that would be my guess. I don't have a book and it has been a long time since i was in Aus.

  5. Thanks Gary, William, and Giles. I never would have figured out the Orangespine Unicornfish by the photo in the book. The giant clams were pretty spectacular. The largest may have been about 5 ft x 5 ft. I guess you call the "clam lips" the mantle. On some of the clams, the mantle appeared bright blue.

I've just began to look at the other photos on this site. YOU GUYS ARE GOOD!!

    Thanks again, Rob
