I tried harder this time. I looked through Wrasses, then Parrotfish. Maybe Japanese, p. 178 or Dark-Capped? But neither seems like a perfect match.
I have about 5 more fish that I would like to post. Should I post them all up at once, or post one at a time? Thanks, Rob in Boston
I would say definitely a Parrot Fish, I can just make out the beak like mouth !
your photos are a interesting challenge, it is very hard to ID fish from above, you should be able to get that one from the book, especially if you remember the colourings.
It would help if you told us where you took the photo - doh!
Cheers
James
I would say most probably not a wrasse.
Where was the photo taken? This can help to ID it...
I'm sorry, all of these photos were taken in the Great Barrier Reef off of Port Douglas, Australia. The ship took us to three different locations for an hour in the water at each spot. Although we were at least an hour by boat out of port, the water was fairly shallow in spots, say 20 ft to 50 ft, designed to be good for mostly snorklers and some scuba divers. Thanks, I'll be sure to mention this in future posts.
Rob I would go and attach the images all in one post be it this one or a new one ... and title it with location and any vague id info you have.
Yellow-barred parrotfish (Scarus dimidiatus)
Thanks,Giles, James, AMW and J.Lyle for the id. I noticed the yellow bar under the pectoral fin, but was focused on the bright blue color. Great work jlyle, Thanks. Rob
