  1. Does an optical slave flash works great underwater?

Before I start to spend on wires, optical fibers or radio devices, I taught about using my little incorporated flash (Canon 10d) to trigger the 2 other strobes (on arms). I will make sure to hide that flash, so it does not light up the unwanted particles between the lens and the subject (fish).

The advantage is: less material to carry, less weight in my luggage at the airport $$$, less broken parts to replace.

The question is (the reason why I put it in this category)… is there something I should know on strobe lights traveling underwater… signal delay, signal degradation, etc… did somebody had a bad experience with optical slave, in a real dive. It work fine in my bathtub but the ocean is another thing.

    : )

  2. If I understand you correctly, this will work as long as the strobes pick up light from your 10d flash. However, if you are with other photographers be sure you are not in a photograph they are taking or you will become very unpopular as every time one of their strobes fire, yours will go off, and place a big flash in their photograph

I did not think about multiple photographers, that could be a pain in the neck.
