Maldives in the second half of May

1 posts
  1. Hi,

I am planning to visit Maldives the second time during the second half of May.

I had my first visit in February 2006. During that time i stayed in Sun Island Resort in South Ari atoll.

I again need a resort based vacation for family reasons so dive safari is not an option unfortunately.

During my first visit i was mostly satisfied with my stay.

We have seen many mantas during our dives at Manta points. However have met a whale shark only once where we had chance to snorkel during 30 seconds till it was disturbed by 25 divers who jumped from our boat.

My main objection to the resort i stayed before is too crowded dive boats and a less personal approach to the visitors than i would expect from an island resort.

Now considering the timing of my visit i wonder whether the South Ari atoll is the right place or should i visit another atoll.

Since Maldives is not a macro heaven i think the best locations will be the ones where i have chance to see big fish such as mantas and sharks.

What i am looking for are:

    1. Good diving (as much as possible from a land based visit) - Good dive sites and less crowded groups

    2. Ability to plan dives and other activities on a personal level. If possible being able dive as a couple with a guide

    3. Availability of a SPA and good food is a plus!

I would appreciate in case you would recommend me the right atoll to choose, the right resort to stay and the best dives i can make in that specific area.

    Mehmet
