After designating certain corals a threateend species, the U.S. Government did not designate critical habitat, as required by the Endangered Species Act. The Center for Biological Diversity sued and won a court settlement in which the government pledged to designate said habitat by November 30, 2008. The proposed rule that is to accomplish this is out for comment. Some environmental groups are asking that the rule be modified to measure water temperature and have the government account for that in protecting the habitat. You can find out more here:
