Inon UCL-165AD Close-up Lens

  1. please pardon my ignorance...

I was thinking of purchasing this as a gift for someone that has a canon sd700is. She can already get incredibly close with this point and shoot in macro mode, so my question is how this works? if it ONLY reduces the focal length so she can get closer, I don't think it would be any value, but if it actually magnifies so she gets a more zoomed in picture without physically getting closer then it might be worth while...

    any thoughts?

    Thanks!

  2. You may want to do a search on UCL-165 and read various commentaries.

    This one " INON UCL-165 v UCL-330 comparison - Canon G9, focusing comparison data "

came up when I did that. It shows various pictures taken with different close up lenses and distances.

I think you will find the close up lens allows you to be further away for the same magnification.

    It is increasing focal length.

Unless you are talking about the wide angle UCL lens, in which case its for wide angle, not close up.

I am not one of the experts here but doing a search might give you some ideas quickly.

  3. Hi Spencer. Dave beat me to it - I was about to point up my comparison of the INON UCL's. And he's right, a UCL will allow you to back off and get some strobe room. Glad my little project has been of help...
