  1. Me and my friends are looking for a dive trip to Bali. Just wondering which season might be the better.

Any info and experience will help

  2. i've dove there in late april and early november all around the NE and SE parts of the island, and both times were great. I'd think april-nov is fine, I might avoid dec-march...

I'm sure others will chime in who spend a lot of time there...you're going to have a great time!

  3. I was there 2 years ago in late June and it was great. You will absolutely love Bali, not just the great diving, but the culture, crafts, etc. FYI, I've heard Sept./Oct. is mola-mola season.

  4. After over 7 years of living and diving in Bali I’ve worked out that there are only really times of the year that are more unpredictable than others. I’ve dived at just about all times of the year in different locations and had fantastic diving here in Bali.

However, the worst I’ve experienced here was 2 years ago in February, though we simply went to another location and had great diving again. February is generally the wettest time of the year in Bali, bringing with it heavy rains, which can mean run off and really poor viz’ in certain areas.

What I usually do when divers want to come during times when I think weather could be dodgy is to leave the itinerary open by not booking any resorts. This way if the weather is not so hot, or simply if the critters are just not there we have the chance to move to another location!

By the way, there can be chance encounters with Mola all year round. I have a photographic group here now, yesterday I took them over to Nusa Penida and most of the group saw a big Mola mola!

  5. hey Graham, big mola mola, that's always a nice sight! last april we saw a huge mola mola at 70ft deep in "the canyon", aka "toilet", getting cleaned.

  6. Hi all,

Know I'm pulling up an old post here. I'm looking to head to Bali around christmas time. Can anyone comment on the dive (and beach) conditions around late dec/early jan? Looking at spending a few days at Tulamben, then seeing where else we end up.

    Cheers,

    Ryan.

  7. What kind of weather do they have on Bali in the middle of November? I am thinking about going to Bali (staying in Matahari Beach Resort hotel and diving with Werner Lau) - problem is - I have never been to Bali before and was told November is a rainy season there). Is it really raining ? My wife does not dive so she needs a decent hotel and good weather ...

  8. My wife and I were in Bali for about a week in late November and early December of last year. The viz was really bad at Tulamben and Nusa Lembongan, but decent at Puri Jati. We knew the viz might be terrible before we went (didn't have much choice about when we went to Bali, unfortunately), so it wasn't that heartbreaking or surprising. Even so, it was frustrating to know how much life there was around us but not be able to see it in all its glory… let alone get good photos.

The upside to the less-than-ideal sea conditions was the absence of other divers. We basically had Kadek, one of the divemasters at BIDP, as our personal guide for a few days around Bali, and then we enjoyed a relatively empty World Diving boat out on Lembongan. The closest we got to a crowded day was the Manta Point & Crystal Bay trip, with maybe ten people on that boat and just one other small boat at each of those sites. Then again, we didn't see any mantas or molas…
