D200 or D300 upgrade

13 posts
  1. Hi All

This is my first time on here. Im thinking of upgrading to a d200 or a d300 not sure yet I will buy the ikelite housing and I have already the ikelite 125 strobe from my old setup. My main problem is I like marco which lens should I get the new 60mm or the 105mm. I always used the 105 on my 5060, but time to upgrade now.

    Any help will do.

Look forward to hear from you guys

  2. There are numerous of thread about 60 Vs 105 and so, just search a bit on this forum and you'll find a lot of info.

If you going on the D200 you can find second hand housing and camera quit easily since a lot of people are upgrading now.

  3. HI,

You can get great prices for new D200 body here in the UK £695.00

I think you need to ask yourself will the D300 take any better pics than the

D200. As it does not make you a better photographer. I would also say that

housings for the D300 are hard to get hold of as we have all found with new

cameras, you may have along wait to get hold of one. As for lens I use both

the 60mm micro/ 105mm micro the 60mm is easer to use as you can use it for

general use as well as macro. The 105mm you will also have to buy another port

or a extender to cover the extra lenght. So my opinion would be to get a D200 with

a housing with a 60mm micro & get shooting good luck.

I'm still getting calls for pictures taken on a Fuji S2 Pro

    Nikon F90

    Nikon F801

    Nikonos RS

    Nikonos V

    and Nikon F2.

It's nice to have the latest tools but what sort of brushes did Michelangelo use?

  6. The price gap between new D200 to D300 is 540$ (B&H prices), its not so much when you consider the price of the all package that need to be bought.

The D300 is better camera, no doubt about it, so if we going on new equipment I'll go with that.

However if you want to save, go with used D200 + housing then the price different is really significant.

  7. Thanks guys for all the info, I will debate over the price and housing, where is a good place to sell my olmpy 5060 with ikelite housing.

  8. Hi Puffer

You could advertise it on the Classifieds on Wetpixel; or try eBay; or see if your local dive shop will let you put an ad up; or maybe your local dive club.

I dunno but at least he didn't have to paint on wet plaster like his mate Leonardo did.

  10. Me, I think Leonardo was plastered when he painted :)

    Used = D200 kit

    New = D300 kit

You either save big or go the distance.

  11. Hi Guys

  12. OK I have formulated what I think is a profound answer!

Buy the best kit you can and go and use it. Do not worry if it is not the best kit you could have bought six months later!

  13. Hi Puffer,

I would say that if it sounds to good to be true...it rarely is...it sounds like you are trying to save a buck or two (aren't we all). In that case I would go for the D200 and not look back! I think you would be miles ahead rather than trying to get a D300 for a "special" price...just my 2 cents...

I have both the D200 and D300 and have been torn on housing one of them...right now I am shooting video but would like to take a step in the "still" direction.
