Hi there,
I'm in unknown waters here.... I shoot dslr but find myself suddenly looking for P&S equipment and am lost! My hubby has suddenly after all these years decided to take his camera underwater. It's a mixed blessing. I am happy of course, but if he gets bitten by the bug - who will now be my critterfinder/model/geartoter? OK.. that's not really the question I expect to find an answer to here.
So he has a Olympus sw 790 and he wants to put it in a housing and have a strobe to go along for shooting little critters. I see that there is a Oly housing for it. Sofar so good.
On to strobe. Options are to either
A) Purchase the Oly UFL-1 strobe or B ) Give him my Ikelite DS-50 (its upgraded for ttl) with the Ikelite manual controller so it can be shot slave mode.
The benefit with B is that it is already lying around and it would also be that I could always use it myself if needed for something AND it would give me a better reason to buy yet another strobe for myself as a "replacament"
However, how could I attach this Ike DS-50 Strobe to the Oly housing? Could I use an Ike tray? Would the Ike DS-50 fit one of the Oly "arms", the PTSA-02 or I think there is one "longer one" as well? (they look more like knobs than arms to me when looking at the pictures)? I would like to make this a compact little package so maybe an ikelite tray would make it bigger than necessary, although it would allow for better positioning of the flash. Not sure that the ability to position the strobe is a big priority tho as hubby is still not even convinced about the necessity of an external strobe (he'll come around...).
Is there some benefit to the Oly UFL-1 stobe over the Ike DS-50?
I could not find a angle (degrees of coverage) anywhere for the Oly, while the angle of coverage us 70 without difuser/80 with diffuser for Ikelite ds-50. Anyone knows if the angle of the Oly is wider or narrower than the Ike ds-50?
Can you manually adjust the UFL-1 strobe exposure?
Says guide no for UFL-1 is 14 . That sounds funkky. Can that be true? The ikelite ds-50 gn is 28 and it's still a "candlelight"...
OK, any enlightenment on the above would be greatly appreciated!
