  1. My wife just gave me a nice gift (it's our 10th anniversary in 10 days) ... She's gonna take the kids and go away for a week in june (21-27) and she's offerred to "pay" for me to go somewhere for a few days to dive and take an underwater photography course.

I will have JUST come back from 3 days diving in Mexico (we're going together with no kids to Playa from 13th-17th).

Does anybody have any suggestions for teachers/courses/places?

I'm looking for somewhere I can go to and from New York in a reasonable amount of time and where I can do a two or three day course ... and preferably warm water.

Are there any good teachers or courses in the Caymans?

    Thanks in advance!!

What a great gift! Better hang on to her. Check out Cathy Church at the Sunset House on Cayman. She hangs out here once in a while.

    Thanks, will do!

  4. Looks like I'm going to Grand Cayman! Cathy won't be there herself, but I think I'm happy to pal around with her staff.

  5. Aha .. .i see what instruction you are doing now !

yeh you probably picked the best choice down here.

not sure there are any "courses" better .. people who know what they are doing who could give you some good pointers but coursewise I'd say you got hooked up pretty good.

I have never done a Cathy course, but I know she always has good staff .. infact I am going shopping there in a few days to buy me a new camera, they have the best prices and some really great choices too !

Will be even better if they ever stock canon stuff !

I recall her prices being good myself, got a strobe down there awhile back (Sea & Sea) and it was a very good price compared to the States. So Giles, which camera are you going for?

Cross your fingers, Mike ... you may be my 40th birthday present ... and that's 2009.

Hey Jeremy, you may want to rephrase that. Have you ever seen Mike in a pink dress?

Haha. Nope ... but if it gets me to Bali, there's no telling what I'd be willing to do.

Are you available for photo instruction in Bali? I'll be there in September and October.

If you offer a short course, maybe we can work something out.

I know! I've been working my ass off for the last 10+ years, and now finally have some time and money to enjoy life and she's been EXTREMELY understanding about my NEED to get underwater as often as possible.

Now we just gotta get her to dive, too ... she did a resort course a couple years back, but it was on a shallow reef and not in a pool and she got a little freaked out.

I think it would have been better to start her in a pool.

Next up is my son George (he's 5) ... we started working on snorkeling last summer ...
