i already have a 10-22 which i use for wide angle shots at the moment, but i would like another lens which is a bit more versatile. i have two trips planned for the end of the year, two weeks in southern egypt and two weeks maldives liveaboard. i have found that unless sharks are almost touching my dome that the 10-22 is just too wide. i also find it restrictive to what i can and cant shoot on a dive. ( this might just be my inexperience though )
hopefully i will be using this lens for reef sharks, diver portraits, reef scenes
i would like a lens that has good zoom capability and also gives a quality image underwater. i would love to hear from other canon 300 - 350 - 400 owners who have a suggestion for me. i would prefer that the lens is compatablte with my 8" dome port.
many thanks, stew
For versatility you can't go past the Sigma 17-70 macro, medium wide angle to 1:2.3 macro in one lens.
OT but if going to the Maldives check your air ...
sad news eah!!! i have been there several times before and have never had any problems like this. we are booked on the nautilus2 which is a very new boat and the operators are very well known here in the uk.
cheers for the tip off though, stew
Another vote for the Sigma 17-70 macro
I 've got one and use it in my 8" ikelite with a long extension.
As I'm never sure of site till I hit the bottom its a great "scout" lens.
I normally do my first dive with this lens and then swap for either Wide or Macro on the second dive.
